Moving + Health Insurance = A Nightmare.

Sooo if you have insurance don't just assume its a catch all thing as you travel state to state, because it is NOT. And unfortunately I learned that in a terrible way.
The last few days I have been tired but not able to sleep through the night, chills, sore throat, stiff neck, enlarged lymph nodes and my tonsils are HUGE.
Day 1 everyone at worked tried to convince me it was allergies and kept joking around saying "Welcome to Tennessee". Now we are at Day 2 and I almost cannot swallow. So of course I call my mom and she is like "Ryleigh, you need to go see a doctor."
So I do some more research and cannot find anyone in my network, I have GHP Insurance for the record. Then I ask for advice on Instagram as I call my family practice back home about doing an appointment via video chat. Well for some unknown reason you can ONLY VIDEO CHAT IF YOU ARE LOCATED IN PA. Like let me know how that makes ANY sense at all *insert eyeroll*. Then I ask if there are any in network providers in my area, and she does not know of course. Then I talk to my insurance company and the nice woman on the phone proceeds to tell me that there is no one in network anywhere near Nashville. But due to our "good policy" we have out of network insurance too, and I am pumped to hear that.
Long story short we have to pay $6,000.00 upfront before our insurance begins to even cover the Out-of-Network locations which I was not told. Then I get to an urgent care and am told that I have to pay $135.00 upfront plus the cost of whatever else they do.
The Attending was an absolute b*tch for a lack of better words. Rolling her eyes when I asked questions, completely ignoring things that my mom had mentioned me to say. Literally tells me I have tonsillitis but that it is not contagious ever and neither is strep. I asked about getting checked for mono and she said it requires a blood sample but she is out of the supplies and does not think I should even get it because "her opinion is right". Wouldn't even feel under my ribs to feel if anything is swollen of the sorts. Nothing.
I am only allergic to two medicines... what does she do? TRIES TO ORDER ME THEM BOTH because hives are "just a rash". Just a legit shit show.
When I posted about my experience on Instagram so many people have experienced the same things and I just think it is ridiculous at this point that we live in 2021 and you can't even move or travel for that matter and have health insurance that actually covers anything.
Cities that followers have had problems in and what their bills were (if applicable):
NYC: $18,000
Maryland: $7,500
Orlando
Las Vegas
So if you get sick on vacation I guess you either pay up or wait until you can get back home?? Insane.
Side Note: For those who don't know what GHP is, my home hospital and insurance are owned by the same company
2nd Side Note: Source was Mayo Clinic :)
